There's just the barest flare of something in his gaze when she says she surrenders, impossible to put a word to, but the one soldier sitting nearest to her finds other places for his eyes to be when he catches it all the same, and there's going to be a fresh round of gossip starting from that side of the table as soon as they're gone.
